Description
Nos. 9-21 Tufnell Park Road are a group of detached and semi-detached houses that form a terrace, built between 1840 and 1850. They are constructed from yellow brick in Flemish bond, with stucco detailing, and feature roofs made of various materials including Welsh and artificial slate and tiles. The houses are two storeys high, with nos. 9-11 having basements. Nos. 9-11 and 19 each have three windows, nos. 13-17 have two windows each, and no. 21 has a five-window range and is double-fronted.
The houses are connected by lower wings that include a carriage or subsidiary entrance on the ground floor, with a flat-arched window above. Nos. 9-11 and 13-15 are two semi-detached pairs, no. 17 is a single house, and nos. 19 and 21 were likely originally a semi-detached pair, with no. 21 later extended westward to become double-fronted.
The round-arched entrance features pilasters, a cornice, and a fanlight. Nos. 9-11 have a stucco surround with Corinthian pilasters and an entablature, while nos. 11, 15-21 have original panelled doors. Nos. 19-21 also have a stucco surround with Corinthian pilasters and an entablature. All windows are flat-arched with gauged brick heads; some first-floor windows in nos. 19-21 have 6/6 sashes of original design. The houses have boxed eaves and hipped roofs, with chimney stacks on the party walls, except for no. 17, which has side stacks.
