Description
No. 147 Hornsey Road is a former vicarage built in 1860, possibly designed by architects Robert Lewis Roumieu and Alexander Dick Gough. The building features yellow and brown brick arranged in Flemish bond, with white brick in English bond and red brick dressings, all topped with a Welsh slate roof. It is designed in an Italianate style.
The main facade faces south and consists of two storeys with dormers, featuring a three-window range and a double-fronted layout, with the center section slightly set back. The corners are accentuated by rusticated pilaster strips. A stuccoed porch with a round-arched entrance is present, featuring a cornice supported by consoles and a blocking course above.
On the ground floor, the windows are flat-arched and consist of three narrow sashes within a substantial architrave, along with a cornice band. The central first-floor window is round-arched, framed by an architrave and cornice. Flanking this are groups of three round-arched windows, also within substantial round-arched architraves, with a frieze and panelled eaves cornice supported by brackets. A central round-arched dormer is positioned between two chimney stacks.
The east elevation is constructed of brown brick, featuring windows with gauged yellow brick heads in three bays, most of which are blank. There is a lower wing to the north made of white brick, with segmental-arched openings that is likely an addition, and a single-storey wing to the west with a shaped gable.
