Description
No. 1 Firs Avenue is a stable block associated with Birchwood Mansions, built in 1907 by W J & William Collins in an Arts and Crafts style. The building is rendered with brick dressings and features plain tiled roofs that are half-hipped, with a gablet on the front block to the right, which includes two small dormers. A half-timbered gabled porch supported by timber posts is located to the right of the central carriage entrance, leading to a yard surrounded by carriage houses with boarded doors arranged in a U-plan around the yard. There are boarded gabled loft entries in the roofs on three sides. At the rear of the entry block, there is a loggia with a splat timber balustrade to the right over the carriage entry. The roof of the front block extends to the left of the entry, forming a small cottage with two windows on the ground floor and one on the first floor. To the right under the arch, there are three doors; the two on the left are boarded, while the right door is half-glazed. The interior was inaccessible at the time of the survey.
