Description

The Odeon Cinema, originally called the Pavilion Cinema, was built in 1923 and designed by Frank Verity. This building of group value is an L-shaped structure constructed of red brick with raked joints, featuring a stone cornice and parapet. A projecting wing on the left side includes a large round-headed window on the first floor and a ground-floor entrance with a late 20th-century fascia on the right. The recessed wing is divided into two sections, with the lower section breaking forward. It contains two tiers of small windows and a pierced stone parapet. The upper section is set back and features two lunette windows, topped by a barrel-shaped roof. The interior has been reconstructed. The cinema was awarded a Royal Institute of British Architects Bronze medal.
