Description
No. 16 Charles Square is a handsome building from the early to mid-18th century, featuring three storeys and a basement with five windows. It is constructed of red brick and has a heavy entablature with a dentil cornice at the second floor level, along with a smaller cornice and parapet above. The building has gauged segmental brick arches with triple keystones above the recessed sash windows with glazing bars on the first and ground floors. The second floor features flat arches without keys, indicating it is a later addition. There is a basement plinth and wrought iron area railings. Access to the central door, which has four fielded and two flat panels, is via four steps. The door is topped by a patterned rectangular fanlight set in a deep panelled reveal. The entrance is adorned with a moulded architrave and a console bracketed cornice above a swell frieze decorated with a pattern of entwined leaves.
