Description

The Old Tower of the former Church of St Augustine is a tall tower with four stages, constructed from Kentish ragstone. It features diagonal buttresses and a high plinth. Canon Clarke suggests that the tower dates from the early 16th century, although parts of the structure may be older. On the east side, there is a doorway with a hollow-chamfered, four-centred arch and nook shafts. The tower has restored traceried bell openings and a lower window with late Perpendicular tracery.
