Description

This is a long range of terraced houses built in the mid-19th century, located on the south side of Dalston Lane in London. The block numbers 270 to 300 (even) represent a cohesive group. The houses are two storeys high with a basement, each originally containing two windows. They are constructed of yellow stock brick with a stucco frieze, cornice, and blocking course. The first-floor sash windows have margin lights and are set within moulded architraves topped with cornices. The ground-floor sash windows also have margin lights, and are framed by flat stucco surrounds featuring frieze panels, console bracketed cornices, and segmental pediments. Projecting cills to these ground-floor windows are accompanied by ornamental cast iron guards. A set of seven steps, flanked by side walls, leads to a front door consisting of two long panels, topped with a rectangular fanlight within an entablature surround. A plaque reading “MEDINA VILLAS” is located on the first floor, between numbers 286 and 288.
