Description
Nos 1 to 3 Ludgate Square, built in 1877 by Bell, is a warehouse featuring red brick with some white brick and stone dressings. The building stands five storeys high and has two wide gabled bays. The ground floor showcases large plate glass windows, supported by exposed fabricated steel lintels and brick piers on either side, with coupled columns that have cast caps in the center. Spiked iron railings protect the basement lights. Above the ground floor, the first to fourth floor windows are set within a single giant pointed arched recess for each bay, featuring white brick arch voussoirs and an enriched stone impost band. The building has a stone parapet, gable copings, and apex finials. At each floor level within the arched recesses, there are exposed steel or iron beams, with timber infilling that includes windows divided by mullions and bars into small squares, along with panelled aprons. An iron jib crane is positioned at a high level on the central brick pier between the bays.
