Description
No 5 Crane Court, built around 1670 by Nicholas Barbon, was severely damaged by fire in 1971 and has been largely reconstructed to resemble its original appearance. The building has three storeys plus a basement and features a slated mansard roof. It is constructed of red brick with flat arches over the windows, floor bands, and a parapet. The entrance has a slight doorcase with an architrave and a flat hood supported by shaped brackets. The rear elevation facing Red Lion Court has less regular windows with segmental arches and painted pilasters at the ground storey, along with a coarsely carved frieze. The interior has also been mostly reconstructed, including decorative plaster ceilings that incorporate much of the original decorative work.
