Description
The Tower of the former Church of St Olave, built between 1670 and 1679 by Sir Christopher Wren, is located on Ironmonger Lane. The main body of the church was destroyed in 1888, leaving only part of the west wall intact. The tower is constructed of Portland stone and features engaged Doric columns along with a segmental pediment above the doorway. There are arched windows above the entrance and a pedimented clock face, which is no longer in use. The belfry openings have been blocked, and the side windows have been altered. The tower is topped with a modillion cornice, a plain parapet, and four obelisks.
