Description

Park House and Garden House, located at 16 and 18 Finsbury Circus, was designed in 1915 and completed around 1920-21 after the war by Gordon and Gunton for S. Pearson & Co. The building features a stone-clad steel frame with a ground floor and first floor that have channeled projecting outer bays. It has a slate mansard roof with dormers and cast iron cresting, showcasing a monumental classical style that follows the curve of the crescent.

The structure consists of six storeys, an attic, and a basement, with a total of 11 bays. The outer bays have concave corners and three grouped two-pane sash windows on each floor, slightly bowed from the second to the fourth floors, and they terminate with Diocletian attic windows. The main bays feature round-arched windows on the ground floor and a Doric portico at each penultimate bay. From the first to the fifth floor, there are paired two-pane sashes in each bay, articulated by engaged Ionic columns, with a balustrade on the second floor. The upper levels are adorned with a frieze and a heavy modillion cornice, with the attic bays also articulated by carved cartouches.

The basement area is enclosed by attached cast iron railings. The rear facade is stone-clad in a simplified classical style, featuring 16 windows, with four in slightly projecting end bays that have hooded balconies on the second floor.
