Description

Numbers 4-13 and attached railings form a terrace of ten houses built between approximately 1808 and 1813, designed and constructed by James Burton. Numbers 9, 10, and 13 were refaced in the mid-20th century to replicate the original appearance. The houses were restored in the 1980s. They are constructed of yellow stock brick, with stucco ground floors, the ground floor of Number 9 being rusticated. Each house has four storeys and a basement, with two windows per elevation. The doorways have round arches, bordered by pilaster jambs and cornice heads. Numbers 9-13 have sidelights and reeded surrounds; Numbers 7 and 8 retain original patterned fanlights, while the others have 20th-century replacements. Similarly, the panelled doors are largely replacements. Gauged brick flat arches feature over the recessed sash windows, and the first floor windows are mostly casements with cast-iron balconies. Number 7 has a two-panel balcony with an intricate design including swags and female heads. The houses are topped by parapets. The interiors were not inspected. Attached cast-iron railings with urn finials define the areas.
