Description
The North Gower Hotel, along with numbers 190-204 North Gower Street and the attached railings, is a terrace of eight houses built in the early 19th century by I Bryant. The buildings are constructed from multi-coloured stock bricks, with some later patching, and feature rusticated stucco ground floors and a plain band on the first floor. They rise four storeys and include basements, with two windows each. Number 204 has a three-window return and an entrance to Starcross Street.
The doorways are round-arched and include fanlights and panelled doors. Notable details include a reeded surround and patterned fanlight at number 190, fluted quarter columns at number 192, and reeded pilaster-jambs at numbers 194 and 198, which have been converted for use as windows. Numbers 196, 200, 202, and 204 also feature reeded pilaster-jambs with cornice-heads and patterned radial fanlights, while numbers 202 and 204 have plain fanlights. Numbers 190 and 192 have round-arched ground floor windows with pointed lights. The recessed sash windows have gauged brick flat arches, glazing bars, and cast-iron balconies on the first floor. The terrace is topped with parapets. The interiors have not been inspected. The property also includes attached cast-iron railings with acorn and spearhead finials surrounding the areas.
