Description
The Rocket Public House is a public house built in 1899 by Shoebridge & Rising for Cannon Brewery. It features red brick construction with stone bands and dressings, topped by steeply pitched slate roofs.
The main building stands three storeys high with an attic, showcasing a single window on the front and a corner turret, along with a two-window return facing Charlton Road. Set back from Euston Road, there is a single-storey extension with one bay, a splayed corner, and a four-bay return that fills the forecourt. The granite public house frontage includes pilasters with enriched capitals and banded shafts that support a fascia with a projecting cornice and blocking course. There are three round-arched entrances—one at the corner and two on the return—while the windows feature large round-arched lights with small panes in the spandrels. The main building has square-headed two-light sash windows flanked by pilasters and enriched aprons. An egg and dart cornice runs along the third floor. The attic storey is adorned with large Flemish gables; the west gable has windows in round-arched recesses with segmental-topped enrichment, and the south gable displays a carved plaque of the sun rising over the sea, inscribed "Rebuilt 1899." The corner turret is embellished with enriched panels and an ornamented lead dome topped with a finial.
Inside, the pub retains its original office and bar screen.
