Description

A terrace of nine houses built around 1829 by James Sim, James Sim Jnr, and Robert Sim. The houses are constructed of yellow stock brick with tuck pointing, and have a stuccoed first-floor sill band. They are four storeys high with basements, and each has two windows. Numbers 10 and 11, and numbers 17 and 18 slightly project. Each house has recessed doorways with arched brick surrounds, radial fanlights, and double-panelled doors. Number 18 has pilaster jambs and a cornice-head to its door, which is panelled and partially glazed with an intricately patterned wrought-iron screen displaying the number centrally. Numbers 12, 16, and 18 have blind boxes. Continuous cast-iron balconies are present on the first-floor windows, most of which are casements. The windows have gauged brick flat arches, with some 20th-century casements. Number 11 has architraved windows with blind boxes, while numbers 13, 16, and 18 have architraved ground-floor windows with blind boxes. Number 12 has blind boxes to all windows. Parapets top the facades. The interior of the houses was not inspected, although a moulded ceiling was noted in the front ground-floor room of number 12. Attached cast-iron railings with pineapple finials are present to the areas, with footscrapers. Number 15 features a wrought-iron overthrow with a lamp-holder and two snuffers.
