Description
Kenwood West Lodge, along with its flanking gates and gate piers, is a lodge dating to around 1795, originally one of two lodges built for Kenwood House. Designed by George Saunders, the lodge is constructed of brick, painted cream, with a slated roof and a central octagonal chimney. It features sashed windows set within gauged, flat arches. A projecting, pedimented wing faces the road. A Victorian rendered extension is present to the rear. The brick gate piers have Portland stone caps. One wrought-iron overthrow, incorporating a lantern holder, is located to the left of the entrance. The interior has not been inspected. The land south of Hampstead Lane, which previously fell within the London Borough of Barnet, was transferred to the London Borough of Camden on 1 April 1994.
