Description
A terrace of twelve houses built around 1826 by John Nash. The houses are constructed of stucco, with a rusticated finish to the ground floor. They have slated mansard roofs with dormers and substantial slab chimney stacks.
The terrace is symmetrical, arranged over three storeys with attics and basements, and the ends and centre have an additional attic storey. Numbers 6, 7, and 12 feature prostyle stucco porticoes; the other houses have plain recessed doorways with panelled doors, some of which are partly glazed. Pilasters rise through the first and second floors to support a continuous entablature at the third floor level. The windows are recessed sash windows; the ground floor windows mostly have margin glazing, the first floor windows are tripartite with a continuous cast-iron balcony, and the second floor windows have architraved surrounds. Houses with an attic storey have a cornice and blocking course, while those with three storeys largely retain a balustraded parapet. At the south end, attached to the former Chester Terrace Mews, is a stucco portico in the Greek Doric style, with fluted three-quarter columns supporting an entablature and pediment.
The interiors have not been inspected. Attached to the areas are cast-iron railings with tasselled spearhead finials. Numbers 1 & 2 and 4-12 were previously listed on 14/05/1974.
