Description
Numbers 27-32 Torrington Square form a terrace of six houses built between 1821 and 1825 by James Sim, in partnership with James Sim Jnr and Robert Sim. The houses are constructed of yellow stock brick with a stucco ground floor, and include a plain first-floor sill band. They are arranged over four storeys with basements, and each house has two windows. Numbers 31 and 32 slightly project. Each house has a round-arched doorway featuring pilaster jambs and a cornice head, as well as a fanlight – the fanlights of numbers 28 and 29 have a radial patterned design – and a panelled door. Gauged brick flat arches are above the recessed sash windows, which retain their original glazing bars. Continuous cast-iron balconies are present on the first floor. There is a plain stucco third-floor sill band and a parapet above. The interiors have not been inspected. Attached cast-iron railings with acorn finials define the areas. Number 30 was formerly the home of Christina Georgina Rossetti.
