Description
Numbers 13-23 and attached railings, known as John Adams Hall of Residence (numbers 15-23), is a terrace of 11 houses built around 1825 by Thomas Cubitt. The buildings are constructed from multi-coloured stock brick with a stucco ground floor, and the houses at numbers 13, 15, 21, and 23 feature rusticated detailing. The terrace stands four storeys high with basements, and each former house has three windows. Number 13 includes a two-storey, three-window addition. The terrace is symmetrical, with numbers 13, 15, 21, and 23 slightly projecting and showcasing a tetrastyle pilaster treatment on the first and second floors.
The doorways are square-headed and recessed, featuring patterned rectangular fanlights and panelled, studded doors. Number 22 serves as the main entrance to the hall of residence, adorned with tetrastyle pilasters at the ground floor, C20 glazed doors, and an overlight. Continuous cast-iron balconies are present on the first-floor casements, with number 14 displaying a cast-iron trellis and a tented canopy. The second and third floors have gauged brick flat arches above the sash windows. An entablature is located at the third-floor level, with a cornice and blocking course above the attic storey. An addition to number 13 is splayed and features C20 sashes. A stucco coat of arms is positioned above the central ground floor window, accompanied by a dentil cornice at the first-floor level, and a cornice and blocking course above the first floor.
The interiors have not been inspected. The terrace is complemented by attached cast-iron railings with foliated finials surrounding the areas.
