Description

Gables Cottage is a cottage built around 1840, notable for its unusual vertical design and Gothick ornamentation. It has three storeys and an attic, featuring three windows. The gable front is flanked by two gabled wings, each two storeys high and one window wide. The structure is made of red brick with gault brick dressings at the center, and the first floor is adorned with fish-scale slate hanging on the main building and the wings. The roofs are slated, with carved bargeboards and a finial. The rear chimney, which previously had two moulded shafts, has been demolished. The central sash window has arched upper panes, while the wrought iron casements include diamond, hexagonal, or oblong panes. The entrance door is boarded. There is a 1980 extension to the left that is not considered of special interest.
