Description
No 5 High Street is a grade II listed building that consists of two separate 17th century timber-framed and plastered houses, which have been combined into one tenement. The building has undergone significant alterations and reconstruction in the early 19th century. No 5 is three stories tall with one window range, while No 6 is two stories with one window range. Both feature double-hung sash windows with glazing bars in flush cased frames. The ground floor has 19th century shopfronts. The roof of No 5 is covered with slate, while No 6 has a tiled roof. Inside No 6, some of the timber framing is exposed. This building is part of a group that includes Nos 1 to 8 (consecutive), as well as Nos 28, 29, and 31, all listed buildings in Well Lane, Stone Hall, and Nos 36 to 40 (consecutive) Nethergate Street.
