Description

The Waggon and Horses Public House is a building with a 16th-century core that was extended in the 18th and early 19th centuries. It stands two storeys high and features six windows. The structure is timber framed and rendered, with rusticated quoins. The rendered parapet has a moulded and modillioned cornice, which displays the name "WAGGON & HORSES INN & MARKET HOUSE" in well-preserved early 19th-century lettering. The roof is slated and includes a rendered chimney at one end.

The building has various early 19th-century windows, including two small-pane sash windows on the ground floor, along with flat-roofed splayed bays at either end, also featuring small-pane sashes. The first floor has sash windows with architraves and cornices on console brackets. There are two entrance doors, each located near the ends of the building, with five and six panels respectively. Each door is topped with a simple entablature supported by attached Corinthian columns. The central 16th-century core is highlighted by exposed beams and joists on the first floor, showing evidence of close-studding. The building's main range was extended rearwards in the early 19th century to create a double-pile plan.
