Description
Alyssum Cottage is a cottage dating from around 1600, with later additions to the rear. It features a timber frame and plastered exterior, topped with a thatched roof covered in corrugated iron sheeting. The building has an axial brick stack and consists of two cells over one and a half storeys. The front includes three 20th-century two-light timber casement windows and a door located in the far right bay, along with two similar dormers. There is a rear window opposite the stack that may have been the position of a former door. Inside, there is a 4-light ovolo mullion window with iron stay bars on what was once the rear wall but is now internal. The exposed brick stack has two back-to-back fireplaces with plain bressumers. A 20th-century stair is located behind the stack. The cottage features axial and transverse beams, some with nicked stops, as well as horizontal joists. The clasped purlin roof is partially exposed. The cottage comprises two cells of a three-cell building, with the third cell being the attached property.
