Description
Nine Mills Headstones, located about 2 to 15 meters north of the Church of St Mary, consist of a group of nine headstones belonging to members of the Mills family. These headstones date from the late 18th century to the mid 19th century and are made of various stones. There is a row of six early 19th-century stones, and behind them, a row of three dedicated to J. Mills, who died in 1782, F. Mills, who died in 1827, and E. Mills, who died in 1858. All nine headstones feature the same inscribed scene within a circular surround and segmental heads, depicting weeping seated putti holding a skull in one hand, with a pyramid in the background and draped sides. This group is notable as a single type that has been treated in various ways over an extended period.
