Description
Hill Barn is a former manorial barn dating from the mid-16th century, currently in the process of being converted into a dwelling. It features a timber frame and a steeply pitched hipped roof, although the cladding has been removed. The barn consists of five bays and has a central gabled midstrey added towards the road, which is flanked by later lean-to outshuts.
Inside, the barn displays close studding without mid rails, reverse curved braces in the walling, and double arched braces that connect jowled posts to cambered tie beams. The lower purlins are clasped by lower collars and halved principals, and there are arched windbraces present. On the lower collars, jowled queen struts extend to upper collars that clasp the upper purlins, along with arched braces from the queen struts to the upper purlins and collars.
