Description

Sycamore Farmhouse is a former farmhouse that has been converted into two dwellings. The building consists of two sections: the southern part is a 16th-century range that was raised and re-roofed in the later 17th century, while the northern part is an early 17th-century parlour cross-wing. It is timber framed and plastered, with a roof covered in concrete plain tiles. The farmhouse is two storeys high, with an attic in the wing. Most of the windows are mid-20th-century casements without glazing bars. The north gable of the cross-wing features an 18th-century mullion and transom window that includes some old diamond-leaded glass. At the junction of the two sections, there is a 19th-century doorway with a four-panel raised and fielded door, which has moulded surrounds and an oblong overlight. The southern range contains two internal stacks with mid-20th-century shafts, one located at the junction with the wing. There is a single-storey plastered addition to the south, which has a boarded entrance door. The southern range is arranged in three bays, possibly consisting of a hall and service cell, and displays some heavy close studding and tension braces. The stack at the southern end is a later addition. The parlour end has most of its structure concealed, and this section may have originally been an in-line addition that was later enlarged to form the cross-wing.
