Description

The Southolt War Memorial is a war memorial erected around 1920, following the First World War, with an additional inscription added after the Second World War. It is carved from limestone and is located in the churchyard of the Church of St Margaret. The memorial features a Celtic cross on a tapering shaft, resting on a trapezoidal plinth and a square base, standing approximately 2.4 meters high. The front (south) face of the plinth has an inscription in incised lettering that reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918 (NAMES)." A further inscription at the base commemorates those who served in the Second World War, stating "1939-1945 (NAME)."
