Description
Minsmere House is a house and shop dating from the 16th century, constructed in two phases. It features a timber frame with a plastered upper floor that retains some old plaster panels. The ground floor is built with colourwashed brick. The building has a pantiled roof and stands two storeys tall. There are three shopfronts beneath a continuous fascia, with large-paned shop windows and semi-glazed panelled doors. The upper floor includes four sash windows with glazing bars and a casement window on the left. On the far right, there is a carriage entrance with boarded doors. An internal stack is set forward of the roof ridge.
Inside, the two bays on the left have some regular heavy studding, and the ground floor ceiling features closely spaced plain joists, indicating a former jetty towards the street. There are heavy arched braces supporting the central tie beam. To the right is a wider range, likely older and contemporary with the carriage entrance, which has some exposed framing. The original structure of the carriage entrance is mostly missing, likely due to a fire. Remnants of a plain crown-post roof can be seen, although the roof over the left section has not been examined.
