Description

The Timbers is a house dating from around 1500, with a small later wing added to the right. It features a timber frame and is plastered, topped with a thatched roof. The building has one and a half storeys, with mid-20th century casement windows on the ground floor and 18th to 19th century casements in two eyebrow dormers on the upper floor. There is a 20th century boarded door and an internal stack with a rebuilt shaft. The later addition is also timber framed, faced in colourwashed brick, and has a roof made of glazed black pantiles, with a gable stack. Originally, it was an open hall house, likely consisting of three cells. The interior has been modernised, but some exposed framing with reversed braces remains. In the hall, there is 17th century panelling that has been brought from another location, featuring fluted Ionic pilasters and the inscription 'Verbvm Domini Manet In Eternvm'.
