Description

Stanwell House is a house dating from the late 18th century, which was refronted in the early 19th century and extended with some parts cased in the late 19th century. It has a timber frame with roughcast and red brick casing and additions. The roof is hipped and covered with pantiles. The building consists of a three-bay block with rear additions and stands two storeys high.

There are steps leading up to a central entrance that features a part glazed, part raised six-panelled door with a panelled reveal and architrave. Above the door is a three-light oblong fanlight, and there is a 19th-century hipped leaded hood supported by brackets. On either side of the entrance are 19th-century recessed glazing bar sash windows with gauged brick flat arched heads. The first floor has three two-light glazing bar casements, also with gauged brick flat arched heads. The building is accented by end pilaster strips and boxed eaves.

At the rear, there are two axial stacks located behind the outer bays, with the left stack being larger. The left end of the house is roughcast and features a ground floor architraved glazing bar sash, while the right end has 19th-century brick casing and a ground floor glazing bar sash with a gauged brick flat arched head. To the rear left, there is a two-storey lean-to addition, and to the rear right, there is a two-storey added wing that includes outer tripartite French windows with a segmental head. The interior has not been inspected.
