Description
Allen's Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century. It is timber framed and rendered, with a thatched roof. The building has a three-cell form and stands two storeys high, featuring three windows with old three-light casements, each light having a single horizontal glazing bar. The lobby entry includes a four-panel door, which is enclosed by a 20th-century gabled porch that is also thatched. There is a boarded half-door leading into the service end at the right gable end. Each gable end has one-storey lean-to additions. At the rear, there is a small thatched wing and a parlour window with old square-leaded glass.
Inside, the hall and service end have plain on-edge joists, while the parlour has plain joists set flat. The chamber above the parlour features plain studding and an original fireplace with a 19th-century grate. The service end retains an old brick floor, a copper, and a bread oven. In the hall, there is a good early 18th-century corner cupboard with panelled doors that have original hinges. The roof has not been examined.
