Description
Frog's Hall is a house dating from around 1700, with 20th-century additions that include a small 18th-century barn. The building features a plastered and whitewashed timber frame, topped with a thatch roof and a brick ridge stack. It has a two-unit plan with additional structures at the rear. The single-storey façade has two windows, with a central door flanked by single two-light casement windows. The left end of the building has a curved thatch extension, which also includes a single two-light casement window. There is a door at the rear with a two-light casement window to its left. The later additions extend from the rear right and touch the corner of the right end, which is otherwise blank. These additions include a small barn or stable.
Inside, the building features tall panel framing and simple bridge beams and rafters, with no attic space. There is an open fireplace with a bresummer that was once free-standing but now forms most of the wall in the curved end room. Two doorways lead to the addition, while the original timber frame remains largely intact. Frog's Hall is an unusual example of a timber-framed two-cell cottage with later low additions that have minimal impact on the original structure.
