Description
Mattocks Farmhouse is a former farmhouse built in two stages, dating from the late 16th century and early 17th century. It has one storey and attics, featuring a two-cell lobby-entrance layout that has been in place since the 17th century. The building is timber-framed and pebble-dashed, topped with a plaintiled roof that includes gabled dormers from the 17th or 18th century, fitted with 19th-century small-pane casements. There is an axial 17th-century chimney with a sawtooth shaft, which is now plastered but likely made of red brick. The farmhouse has a mid-20th-century casement and a 19th-century small-paned casement. A 20th-century gabled entrance porch with a panelled door has been added. The right-hand cell contains a hall and chamber with features from 1550 to 1580, including well-chamfered joists and main beams, as well as an open fireplace with a large cambered lintel. The parlour cell on the left is a rebuilding from the early 17th century, characterized by plain framing and a lintelled open fireplace.
