Description

This is a late 16th-century barn located 40 metres east of The Firs. The barn has a timber frame, largely covered by corrugated asbestos sheeting above a high concrete plinth. The west gable end is cement-rendered and dated 1951. The roof is clad in corrugated metal sheeting. The interior reveals a 5-bay frame with a mid rail running all around, featuring heavy studding, approximately 60% of which remains, and curved braces against the outside of the studs. The east gable end has been rebuilt. Most of the tie beam braces have been replaced with knees, although one remains intact. The roof, spanning 8 bays, is well-preserved, with clasped and butt purlins and arched wind-bracing to the upper row of purlins. A 19th-century upper floor has been added to the westernmost bay.
