Description
The gateway located 220 meters south of Shrubland Hall dates from the early to mid-19th century. It is made of wrought iron and measures approximately 10 meters wide and 4 meters high. The structure features a pair of carriage gates flanked by side panels and topped with a crown. The gates are hung from openwork piers that have finials and scrolled infill. The side panels, supported by similar outer piers with spearhead standards, complement the design. Above the gates, there is a fine crown with a cast-iron panel that displays an achievement featuring a hand and a unicorn on a diaperwork background. It is believed that this gateway was relocated from one of the entrance driveways, possibly from the Ipswich Lodge.
