Description
Segmore Farmhouse is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations and facing from the 19th century. It is constructed of colourwashed brick over a timber frame, topped with a black glazed Roman tile roof and a brick ridge stack. The house features a 3-unit lobby-entry plan and has two storeys plus an attic. The front has a five-window range that includes both 2-light and 3-light casements, with a 2-light casement located in a two-storey porch on the center right. The ground floor has a door in the porch, three 3-light casements, and a French door. The left end has a 4-light casement with a 2-light casement above it, and a single-light window in the attic. The right end features a lean-to extension with a 2-light casement above it in the attic. At the rear, there are additional casements, a porch, a door, and another door in the lean-to.
Inside, the inner door leads to a lobby with a winder stair directly in front of the stack. The left room has an open fireplace with a bressumer and a bread oven. Large panel framing is visible on both floors, showcasing tension bracing and jowled posts. On the first floor, there is an early 19th-century fireplace with a cast-iron hob grate. The winder stair continues up to the attic, which features a coupled rafter roof with a continuous purlin supported by windbraces and half principals, with upper collars added. This roof is an unusual survival of an earlier style.
