Description

Thorpe View is a farmhouse with a late 16th-century core, although the facade was likely rebuilt in the early 19th century and modernized in the mid-20th century. The construction is timber-framed, with a flint facade featuring red brick headers and dressings. The gable ends and rear are brick-cased, with weatherboarding above the eaves, and the roof is covered in plain tiles, with newer tiles to the rear. The house has two storeys and an attic, featuring four windows on the ground floor and two on the first floor, with 2-light and 3-light casement windows, and segmental arches above. A brick dentil eaves cornice runs along the top of the facade. A modern doorway is located at the rear. Inside, a notable internal stack has a row of three coupled octagonal flues, now reduced in height, with molded bases. Projecting bricks shaped as horses' heads are at the corners of the stack—a distinctive feature of Tudor chimneys believed to ward off evil spirits. The interior retains exposed timberwork and includes a beam over one ground floor fireplace, decorated with embattled carving.
