Description

The Old Rectory is a former rectory that has been converted into a private dwelling. It dates from the mid-16th century at the rear and has undergone significant alterations and additions, particularly the early 19th-century front range. The building is two storeys high with an attic in the earlier section. The front range is constructed of white brick and features a slated roof, three windows with inset sashes and slender glazing bars, and flat brick arches. The entrance includes a six-panel bolection-moulded door with a rectangular fanlight above, and the wide overhanging eaves are supported by paired brackets.

The earlier part of the building consists of a main range and a cross wing, which is timber framed and primarily cased in white brick. The roof of this section is pantiled at the front and slated at the rear. At the back of the cross wing, there is an early 19th-century curved three-light bay with tall sash windows and a tall parapet that has blank panels. The gable end of this wing features very fine early 19th-century carved and cusped bargeboards. Inside, the earlier part has a ceiling with a good roll-moulded beam and joists, while the later section includes a dog-leg staircase with turned balusters and carved ends on the treads.
