Description
Anchor House is a house that was once a public house, dating from the mid-17th century. It is timber framed with pebbledash render on the facade and the right gable end, while the rest has been faced or rebuilt in 19th-century red brick. The house features a thatched roof and is two storeys high with an attic, arranged in a three-cell form. There are three windows, which include various three-light mullion and transom casements. An internal stack is present, and there is a boarded entrance door located at the rear. Attached to the left side is a single-storey range that was formerly used as stables, which also has a thatched roof. The interior reveals some exposed framing and joists; one ground floor room contains a floor beam with ovolo-moulding and double stop-chamfers. The house has newel stairs and a well-preserved original roof structure featuring arched wind-bracing.
