Description
Hillingdon is a house built around 1910, likely designed by R.C. Cockrill. It features rendered and colourwashed brick with machine tile roofs and consists of one storey plus a dormer attic. The design is symmetrical, highlighted by three gables aligned in a row. The entrance is through a central half-glazed door with painted glass. On either side of the door are three-light mullioned windows that illuminate inglenooks by the interior stack. Further out, there are bay windows with five-light cross casements, which support an overhanging upper floor. This upper section is also supported by two square timber piers in front of the doorway.
The upper floor has three gables, each featuring a four-light mullioned window and vertical exposed studwork, with brick nogging between the studs. The two main studs are placed diagonally, creating a dynamic rhythm. A central ridge stack is present, and the east and west sides are characterized by long roof slopes, each with a pair of flat-topped dormers that embrace a stack. The rear of the house also has three gables, designed more simply, with mullioned windows similar to the front.
Inside, the space is austere, with a short entrance passage leading to a central staircase hall that is top-lit and extends through both storeys. The staircase features stick balusters and square newels, while the main ground-floor rooms include panelled inglenooks.
