Description

A pair of estate cottages located in Ashby, built in 1846 as housing for workers on Hall Farm. The cottages are constructed of colourwashed red brick with a pantiled roof featuring ridge tiles. They were built in a picturesque estate style, exhibiting a symmetrical design with gabled cross-wings projecting to both the front and rear. The cottages are two storeys high, with four windows per elevation. Each window is a 2-light casement with lattice panes, set under segmental arches. A recessed centre features an open lean-to verandah supported by square timber posts. Doorways are located on the inner returns of the wings. Two gabled half-dormers are positioned above the verandah. Scalloped bargeboards adorn all gables. Two stacks are present, each incorporating three square shafts arranged in a diamond pattern.
