Description
Spring's Farmhouse is a former farmhouse, with origins in the mid-16th century and alterations in the early 18th century. It is two storeys high. The structure is timber-framed and rendered, with a clay pantile roof. A 19th-century red brick gable is visible on the right side. An internal chimney stack, with a plain, rebuilt shaft of Tudor red brick, is set below the ridge. Replacement casement windows are now in place, with transoms on the ground floor. The main entrance is through a small 20th-century extension on the left end.
Inside, to the right of the stack, a 16th-century bay is visible with good studding and reversed braces. The upper floor features a five-light window with plain, chamfered mullions that have been replaced. The roof has clasped purlins. There is an upper fireplace with a square brick surround, chamfered jambs, and plasterwork rusticated to simulate stone. A good studded door with narrow, molded planks is also present. This part of the house was lengthened by approximately half a bay, likely when the 19th-century brick gable was added.
To the left of the stack, the timber framing is later and less substantial, featuring thin joists set on edge, small main beams, and primary braces in the walls. This section appears to be an 18th-century replacement of an earlier structure. A small 18th-century wing extends to the rear of the property.
