Description
Bridge Street Farmhouse is a timber-framed and plastered house with cross wings at both the north and south ends. Originally built as a medieval hall house, it had a floor added in the 16th to 17th century and was extended to the north during the 17th century. At the rear, there is a long two-storey service wing, likely from the same period, which extends to the west and was refronted in the early 19th century. The house has two storeys and attics, with the cross wings featuring jettied upper storeys on the east front. The window arrangement consists of a 1:2:1 pattern, with casements that have early 19th-century stucco hood moulds. The first-storey windows are two-light, while the ground-storey windows are three and four-light, complete with mullions and transoms. A gabled porch from the early 19th century projects at the front, adorned with cut and shaped ornamental bargeboards. The roofs are tiled, featuring a central chimney stack on the main block and an external chimney stack on the south side of the south cross wing. Both stacks have two octagonal shafts with moulded caps and bases, which have been restored. The north cross wing has a similar stack with one octagonal shaft. Inside, the roof displays smoke-blackened timbers and a crown post supported by four braces.
