Description

Over Hall is a house with origins dating back to the 15th century, featuring alterations from the 18th and 19th centuries. The building is constructed from rendered timber-frame and brick, topped with a plain-tile hipped roof and brick side stacks. It is likely an extended hall-house, designed in an L-plan with a wing at the rear right. The house has two storeys and presents a three-window range of 8/8 sash windows, with a central 6/6 sash. The entrance features a wooden doorcase with an entablature supported by brackets, leading to a six-panel door. The right side of the house includes various casement windows, additional 8/8 sashes, and a lean-to projection. Inside the wing, similar sashes can be found along with a French window, a lean-to with a 6/6 sash, and a casement above.

The interior reveals heavy scantling framing in the rear wing, which likely formed the hall-house facing right from the front. The partition between the sitting room and kitchen has a groove in the wall-plate that probably held the panels of a plank and muntin screen, with massive wall posts in the center. Close studding is visible on the walls, and wide flat ceiling joists are present. A large stack is situated between the sitting room and dining room, the latter featuring a small early 19th-century open fireplace and wide flat ceiling joists. The drawing room's framing is likely from the 18th century, with a modified open fireplace. The house also includes a stick baluster staircase and plank doors, though the roof is not fully accessible at this time.
