Description
The Church of St Mary the Virgin is a Grade I listed building located in Thorpe Morieux. This church dates from the 13th to 14th centuries and is constructed of flint and stone. It features a notable west tower with a castellated parapet, diagonal buttresses, and a staircase turret, believed to have been built around 1300 according to Pevsner. The nave is supported by V-shaped buttresses. The south porch, dating from the 14th century, has a timber traceried archway, side openings, and traceried bargeboards. The south door, also from the 14th century, is adorned with quatrefoil borders. Inside, the floor slopes significantly from the west end to the chancel, and there is a plain square font from the 13th century supported by five pillars. The church underwent restoration in the 19th century and is recognized for its architectural and historical significance.
