Description
Thorne Lodge is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It features a plastered and whitewashed timber frame and brick construction, with a front bow made of flint and brick, and brick gable ends. The roof is thatched, with two brick stacks at the ridge and one projecting from the left end. The layout is possibly a three-unit plan that has been extended to four. The building is single storey with an attic and has a three-window range consisting of one sash window and two 2-light casements, the latter set in a large projecting bow that includes a central plank door. The right end of the house has a 3-light casement on each floor, with the upper window framed and rendered. At the rear, there is a three-window range featuring three 2-light gabled dormers above, and a part-glazed door located to the centre left, flanked by narrow sidelights.
Inside, the property has bridging beams with wide chamfers and wide or chamfered joists, along with some large panel framing visible. There are back-to-back brick open fireplaces with bressumers and hoods, and two winder staircases.
