Description
The Ruined Chapel of St Nicholas in Stoke-by-Nayland was built by Richard Constable, who owned the manor of Giffords Hall in 1216. It is possible that he also constructed an earlier hall on the same site, but it is more likely that the Gifford family, who held the manor from the mid 13th century to the mid 14th century, were responsible for it. The chapel is made of flint and originally consisted of a nave and chancel, but it now stands in ruins.
