Description

Cordell Cottages is a historically significant building located on the east side of High Street in Long Melford. Originally constructed as a medieval timber-framed and plastered hall house, it features cross wings at both the north and south ends. In the 16th century, the south wing was extended to the east at the rear, and in the 17th century, a range was added behind the north wing. During the 19th century, a painted brick block was added to the north side of the north wing. The building is primarily two storeys tall, with the central block being one storey and featuring attics. Most of the windows are 20th-century casements, although some are double-hung sashes with glazing bars. The roofs are tiled, and there is one gabled dormer on the main block.
