Description

This is a 16th-century timber-framed and plastered rectory, situated on a moated site, and modified in the 18th century and later. The building has a tiled roof, hipped at the ends, and a prominent ridge chimney stack with four octagonal shafts that have moulded bases. These shafts have been shortened and topped with chimney pots. The rectory has an L-shaped layout, with wings extending to the northeast and southeast; the southeast wing, originally a cross wing, is now part of the main building. It is two storeys high, with attics, and has a six-window facade of casement windows. A Tuscan portico with simple columns and a cornice shelters the doorway. John Boise, a scholar and divine, is believed to have been born at the rectory and later served as its rector.
