Description

Babergh Hall is a substantial late 18th- and early 19th-century house built on a U-shaped plan, with its main façade facing southwest and wings extending northeast. It is fronted with Suffolk brick and has two storeys. The southwest front has a seven-window range, arranged in a 3:1:3 pattern, while the southeast front has a three-window range, arranged in a 1:1:1 pattern (with one window blocked). The windows are double-hung sashes with glazing bars, set in plain reveals. A central gable with flanking pilasters is a feature of the southwest front, and the ground floor has a two-window range with a central wooden doorcase. This doorcase incorporates panelled reveals, plain Ionic columns, and a modillion pediment with an ornamental frieze. The centre section of the southeast front projects slightly, featuring a gable and a central glazed door within a stone doorcase that has a moulded architrave and keystone. The roof is tiled and hipped, with a paired modillion eaves soffit and red brick end chimney stacks. The hall is situated within its own park.
